Don't Put It In email

John Gruber, commenting on Google’s ‘Communicate with Care’ policy:

If you don’t want it discovered, don’t put it in email.

Exactly.

If you don’t want other people to know about it don’t tell anyone about it.

But, how is a group of 100 (or however many) engineers working on a single project supposed to stay on the same page of a project?

Conference call every time there’s a question? Fuck that.

Try to get a group of more than 4 people working on the same project to discuss the project only in person or on the phone, in any organization, and watch chaos unfold.

Well, these are simply fantastic drawings and diagrams of Japanese hotels made by Kei Endo.

Simply stunning. My favorite so far is this watercolor of The Okura Hotel.

Well, I must say, Ulysses is a pretty nice editor.

Of course, I’ve only played around with it for a whole 3 minutes so far.

Lots to learn and understand still.

I’m looking forward to using and learning this little app to write on the blog.

Testing posting from Ulysses on my MacBook Air.

Um, I may have to add the term jackassery to my vocabulary.

It does well to describe a wide range of acts in an interesting way.

I hate meetings where the people just read the information on the slides. I can read what you have on your slides. I don’t need you to narrate them as well. It’s a meeting, not an audio book.

I ordered an unstained one just because.

In today’s episode of: Pundit ask questions for no reason.

A year on, why is there still no replacement for the original HomePod?

Quick answers:
It was too expensive.
It didn’t differentiate enough. No one bought it.

Why would Apple replace a product no one actually wanted?

I did not know this was happening. Interesting that Amazon bought a whole movie studio. I wonder if Apple will do something like that now that they’re getting into the entertainment industry.

Amazon officially completes its acquisition of MGM for $8.5B

New Stabbing Westward album?

Excellent.

I mean, you obviously don’t have to be smart to be part an elected member of a government. You just have to convince people you’re not incompetent.

Quote of the Day.

Free Speech Isn't What Americans Think

Dear New York Times Opinion,
This is not Free Speech.

For all the tolerance and enlightenment that modern society claims, Americans are losing hold of a fundamental right as citizens of a free country: the right to speak their minds and voice their opinions in public without fear of being shamed or shunned.

Buried way down at the bottom of this article is.

It is worth noting here the important distinction between what the First Amendment protects — freedom from government restrictions on expression — and the popular conception of free speech — the affirmative right to speak your mind in public, on which the law is silent.

That is one big doozy of a clarification to bury in the bottom of an article about Free Speech. You’re not saying that The United States government is restricting Free Speech (actual definition); you’re saying people are afraid to say something - definitely not Free Speech.

I subscribe to NY York Times for the news, not the Opinion. But, this framing of an “issue” isn’t a good look for any part of a reputable newspaper, let alone the Opinion Board (which decides what opinions are published in the section).

A truly fantastic illustration by Bob Haberfield.

Watching V for Vendetta tonight I’m amazed that Natalie Portman could act with Hugo Weaving waring a mask the entire time.

Talent everywhere and a wonderful movie.

It feels so strange waking up at 3pm instead of my normal 10 am. But, that is the price I pay for working an overnight shift yesterday and getting home at 8am instead of midnight.

Now the task is try to get back to a normal schedule.

The only acceptable thing to think when you see this bumper sticker.

Here we are, born to be kings. We’re the princes of the universe

Puerto Rico Exits Bankruptcy

Puerto Rico should be a state in the United States. So should Guam. so should America Samoa.

The United States shouldn’t have territories that are not actual states. It’s past time to give representation to those without.

Am I wrong in my understanding of Critical Race Theory?

As I understand it:
It is a graduate level, post college/university, theory looking at American history and acknowledging that race has played, and still plays, a critical role in understanding events.
